Walmart to Cut About 1,000 Tech and Product Jobs in AI Efficiency Push
Walmart, the world’s largest retailer, is consolidating its global technology and product teams to reduce organizational overlap and accelerate decision-making. As generative AI, automation and data analytics become increasingly embedded in retail operations, the restructuring highlights how large companies are reallocating white-collar staff and directing resources toward greater efficiency across supply chains, stores and e-commerce.
Walmart’s latest plan will eliminate about 1,000 corporate white-collar positions, mainly in its technology and product divisions, with the transformation led by its newly appointed AI acceleration chief. The company plans to continue expanding investment in artificial intelligence and automation. As of July 20, 2026, however, it had not disclosed when the cuts would take effect, which regions would be affected or how much it would invest.
