Jensen Huang Defends NVIDIA’s AI Chip Lead and Competitive Strategy
Competition in AI computing has expanded beyond the performance of individual GPUs to encompass the CUDA software ecosystem and capital alliances with cloud providers. Google uses its TPUs to support Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude, while Amazon has invested $8 billion in Anthropic, directly challenging NVIDIA’s market dominance and pricing power.
In a 1-hour, 43-minute interview with Dwarkesh Patel on April 15, 2026, Jensen Huang argued that hundreds of millions of GPUs and the CUDA developer ecosystem form NVIDIA’s core moat. He also acknowledged that NVIDIA should have invested in Anthropic earlier. Huang opposed tighter U.S. export controls on China, saying Huawei could link 384 chips together to close the gap, though doing so would consume about four times as much power as an NVIDIA system.
