Wintermute Plans $1 Billion AI, High-Frequency Trading Push
Wintermute, a major cryptocurrency market maker, is seeking to extend its trading expertise beyond digital assets as it builds new sources of revenue. The push into artificial-intelligence infrastructure and high-frequency trading marks a significant diversification for the crypto-native firm, whose liquidity provision and algorithmic strategies have historically centered on token markets. It also reflects a broader effort by digital-asset companies to compete in established financial markets.
Wintermute plans to invest as much as $1 billion over the next five years in AI data-center infrastructure and high-frequency trading, according to the latest report. The company aims to increase the share of its business generated outside crypto to more than 50% by the end of 2027. The targets would make traditional finance and supporting technology a central part of Wintermute’s expansion strategy.
