PYMNTS and FIS Report Finds $42 Billion Opportunity in Embedded Checkout Offers
Discounts, loyalty rewards and credit card offers have long been scattered across merchant apps, payment cards and brand rewards channels. Consumers often abandon them because the offers are hard to find or require too many steps to redeem. That not only wastes promotional spending but also forfeits opportunities to influence product choices, spending and payment methods before checkout. Embedding offers directly into shopping and payment flows is therefore becoming a new battleground for merchants, banks and payment providers competing for transactions and customer loyalty.
In a report released on April 10, 2026, PYMNTS Intelligence and FIS surveyed 2,754 U.S. adults from February 12 to March 4, 2026, and estimated that unconverted offers represented $42.4 billion in spending opportunities. The study found that about half of checkout offers go unseen. Nearly 90% of respondents wanted to see all discounts before placing an order, about 70% would adjust their purchases as a result, and 77% said real-time offers would influence their default payment method.
