Grab to Acquire foodpanda Taiwan as Market Weighs Web3 Wallet and Crypto Payment Prospects
Taiwan’s food-delivery and mobile-payment markets are highly concentrated, and foodpanda has an extensive network of merchants, couriers and consumers. If Southeast Asian super app Grab completes the acquisition, it will not only enter Taiwan’s food-delivery market. The potential introduction of its existing Web3 wallet and crypto payment features could also affect the local payments ecosystem and regulatory landscape.
Grab recently announced that it would acquire foodpanda’s Taiwan business for $600 million in cash and plans to complete the platform migration in 2027. Beyond the transaction review and user transition, the market is watching whether Grab will also introduce its Web3 wallet and crypto-asset payments, and how those services would comply with Taiwan’s existing financial and anti-money-laundering regulations.

The history behind this eventGrab Eyes Atome Financial Buyout in BNPL Push
Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading ride-hailing and food-delivery group, has used acquisitions to broaden its platform and is increasingly relying on payments, lending and other financial services for growth. Singapore-based Atome Financial operates in buy now, pay later, or BNPL, offering installment financing at checkout. Bringing Atome into Grab’s ecosystem could connect consumer credit more closely with its large base of users, merchants and payment services across the region.
As of Sept. 16, 2026, Grab was reportedly in talks to acquire Atome Financial, with no completed transaction described in the available reports. The event brief puts the potential valuation at more than $2 billion, while the latest related headline characterizes the deal as a $1.4 billion acquisition, a discrepancy that remains unresolved. If completed, the purchase would substantially expand Grab’s BNPL reach and strengthen its position in Southeast Asia’s competitive digital-finance market.
