Taiwan FSC Allows Digital-Only Banks to Open Physical Financial Service Stations
Taiwan’s digital-only banks are barred by regulatory design from operating physical branches, with services conducted primarily online. The market currently comprises Next Bank, LINE Bank (Line Bank Taiwan) and Rakuten International Commercial Bank. As demand grows for in-person consultations and guidance on using banking apps, offline contact points could help digital-only banks reach more customers and build trust.
As of July 19, 2026, the Financial Supervisory Commission had allowed all three digital-only banks to establish physical “financial service stations” at locations of their choosing. The sites may conduct marketing, demonstrate apps and provide customer consultations. They may not accept deposits or process transfers, withdrawals or other transactions and are not classified as branches, but they give the banks fixed locations for face-to-face interaction with the public for the first time.
