Bitcoin Nears Golden Cross as USDT Bolsters Bullish Case

1 reports · First detected 2026-09-03 · Last active 2026-09-03

A golden cross occurs when a shorter-term moving average rises above a longer-term gauge, with bitcoin traders typically watching the 50-day average cross the 200-day line. The formation is widely treated as bullish because it can signal strengthening momentum, but its record in crypto markets is mixed. Bitcoin’s volatility means the crossover may arrive after much of a rally has already occurred or be followed by a reversal, limiting its value as a standalone forecast.

Bitcoin is now approaching another potential crossover of its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, reviving expectations of a bullish technical signal. This time, the analysis points to movements in USDT, the dollar-linked stablecoin issued by Tether, as a potentially more meaningful confirmation of market demand. Signs that USDT liquidity is positioned to move into crypto assets would suggest buyers have deployable capital, giving the prospective golden cross more fundamental support than the chart pattern alone.

USDT Dominance Flashes Golden Cross, Potentially Signaling Bitcoin Weakness2026-06-09 · 1 reports · similarity 0.85

USDT, issued by Tether and pegged to the U.S. dollar, is the world’s largest stablecoin and a major trading and funding instrument in crypto markets. Its market share typically moves inversely to Bitcoin’s price: USDT dominance rises when investors seek safety, while a simultaneous decline in USDT’s market capitalization may indicate that funds are being redeemed for fiat and leaving the market altogether. A strengthening moving-average trend is therefore seen as a warning that risk appetite is cooling.

On June 9, 2026, USDT dominance’s 50-week moving average crossed above its 200-week average. A week earlier, its market share had surged 13.5% in a single day to 9%, while Bitcoin fell nearly 14% and briefly dropped below $60,000. Arca Chief Investment Officer Jeff Dorman said the main driver was Strategy’s June 1 disclosure that it sold 32 BTC between May 26 and 31 for about $2.5 million, rather than a rotation of capital into AI.
