Jimmy Song Urges Bitcoin to Adopt Conservative Node Client to Preserve Its Monetary Properties

Bitcoin full nodes allow users to independently verify transactions and supply rules, making them central to the network’s decentralization and monetary credibility. ProductionReady co-founder Jimmy Song argues that if the blockchain continues to carry arbitrary data for non-monetary uses, storage and operating costs will rise. That could crowd ordinary users out of transaction verification and weaken the network’s resilience.

Song recently argued that Bitcoin should adopt a more conservative node client and again restrict the amount of data permitted in OP_RETURN. He proposed restoring the 83-bit limit to curb arbitrary data inscriptions and reduce node costs. As of July 20, 2026, this remained a technical proposal from Song, and related reports mentioned neither a funding amount nor a formal activation date.
