Discovered Materials Raises $9 Million to Hunt Cooler Chip Materials

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-10 · Last active 2026-08-10

AI chips running intensive workloads generate enough heat to make cooling a major constraint on data-center power use and computing efficiency. Discovered Materials, founded by Advaith Sridhar and Akash Ramdas after emerging from Y Combinator, is targeting that bottleneck with swarms of AI agents. Its system combines Anthropic models with in-house physics models and laboratory testing to propose, simulate and validate semiconductor materials faster than conventional research, which can take more than a decade.

On August 10, 2026, Discovered Materials said it had closed a $9 million seed round led by Lightspeed India Partners, with backing from Peak XV Partners and angel investors Paul Graham, Gokul Rajaram and Thariq Shihipar. The startup said its agents can generate thousands of material hypotheses a day, versus about 20 daily guesses during Ramdas’s doctoral work. It also released examples of hundreds of materials and its Material Discovery Bench, and aims to identify patentable candidates within a year.
