TWQR Transactions Top NT$710 Billion in 2025 as Transit and Cross-Border Services Expand
TWQR is a common QR code standard developed by Financial Information Service Co. to integrate banks and electronic payment providers, addressing the lack of interoperability among their scanning systems. It currently connects 54 financial institutions and 10 electronic payment institutions. Its uses have expanded beyond transfers and retail purchases to include QR-code rides on the Taipei Metro, making it key infrastructure for Taiwan’s push toward cashless payments and cross-border interoperability.
According to Financial Information Service Co., TWQR processed about 150 million transactions worth approximately NT$710 billion in 2025, up 31% and 46%, respectively, from 2024. The company announced the launch of TWQR Inbound on April 14, 2026. The service was scheduled to connect first with Japan’s PayPay at the end of April, allowing travelers to pay at more than 400,000 stores across Taiwan. Singapore’s NETS was expected to go live in the second quarter.
