Ethereum Co-Founder Warns of Centralized AI Risks, Sees Promise in Crypto Convergence

1 reports · First detected 2026-04-18 · Last active 2026-04-18

Ethereum launched in 2015, laying the foundation for open finance through smart contracts and decentralized applications. Joseph Lubin, an Ethereum co-founder and CEO of Consensys, said transparency and accountability would suffer if AI computing power, models and data were concentrated among a handful of technology giants. Blockchain could provide a verifiable collaboration layer without a single controlling entity, shaping how power is distributed in the digital economy.

In an interview published by CoinDesk on April 18, 2026, Lubin said AI and crypto were converging at an accelerating pace. Autonomous or semi-autonomous AI agents could use decentralized networks to transact, coordinate and verify one another. Consensys is also reshaping MetaMask into a new type of user-owned neobank, enabling agents to manage assets and execute transactions. No investment amount or formal launch date was announced.
