Canva Unveils Major AI-Powered Agentic Platform Overhaul
Canva launched in 2013 and has grown from an online design tool into a Visual Suite serving 265 million people each month. Generative AI is reshaping content creation and weakening traditional software as the primary entry point. Canva has positioned AI 2.0 as its biggest overhaul in 13 years, shifting from a design tool with AI features to an agentic platform that can understand intent and coordinate tools. The revamp also affects the growth narrative underpinning Canva’s $42 billion valuation in 2025.
Canva unveiled AI 2.0 at Canva Create on April 16, 2026, initially making it available to the first 1 million users as a research preview. The system can turn text, sketches or unfinished ideas into layered, editable layouts and adds six workflows, including Connectors, scheduling and web research. On April 17, Canva also integrated with Anthropic, allowing users to import Claude Design drafts directly into Canva to complete their designs.
