Robinhood Venture Fund Buys Stake in OpenAI
OpenAI has yet to go public, making it difficult for ordinary investors to gain direct equity exposure. Robinhood Ventures Fund I (RVI), a closed-end fund operated by Robinhood, invests in private companies. By holding the fund, retail investors can gain indirect exposure to OpenAI’s potential growth and valuation changes, providing a new avenue for pre-IPO equity exposure.
As of July 19, 2026, RVI had spent $75 million to acquire OpenAI shares, making the artificial intelligence company a significant investment for Robinhood Ventures. OpenAI has not announced a formal IPO date, so the transaction gives retail investors an opportunity to gain indirect exposure while the company’s listing timeline remains uncertain.
