Chinese AI Firms Race to Raise Funds, Plan 2027 Listings

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-22 · Last active 2026-07-22

Chinese artificial-intelligence developers have released increasingly capable models that are narrowing the performance gap with U.S. rivals, but shortages of advanced chips, computing capacity and capital continue to constrain training and expansion. The risk of tighter U.S. technology controls has added urgency to fundraising and overseas cloud contracts, as companies seek resources for new models, infrastructure and hiring. Beijing has also urged state-owned firms and private investors to direct long-term funding into AI and semiconductors.

As of July 2026, at least six Chinese AI companies were preparing listings in Shanghai or Hong Kong by the end of 2027. Beijing-based Moonshot AI was completing a private funding round at a valuation above $30 billion and preparing a Hong Kong IPO for early 2027. DeepSeek was seeking several billion dollars privately, a deal that would value it at more than $70 billion, and was targeting a Shanghai listing in 2027. OpenAI, by comparison, secured more than $100 billion in commitments earlier in 2026.
