Click to Pay Gains Ground as U.S. Banks Favor Paze

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-24 · Last active 2026-07-24

Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover launched Click to Pay in 2019 as a common online checkout standard built on EMVCo specifications. The service replaces repeated card-number entry with tokenized credentials, aiming to reduce fraud and checkout friction. Its adoption matters as card networks seek to preserve their role in e-commerce against digital wallets and account-to-account payment options.

Mastercard said on June 1, 2026, that Click to Pay was available in 32 European markets and enrolments had more than doubled, while merchant tokenization covered 45 European countries and territories. Visa extended the service to eligible Revolut cardholders on June 16. Momentum remains weaker in the United States, where major banks have prioritized the Paze wallet, prompting payments specialists to call for stronger issuer-led consumer education.
