Claude, ChatGPT and Grok Outages Fuel Shared Data Center Questions

Generative AI chatbots depend on dense clusters of GPUs, networking equipment and routing systems, leaving services vulnerable when infrastructure is concentrated among a small number of operators. Back-to-back disruptions affecting OpenAI, Anthropic and Elon Musk’s xAI have therefore renewed scrutiny of whether major AI providers share critical facilities and whether a single operational failure can spill across platforms as reliance on ChatGPT, Claude and Grok grows.

Claude, OpenAI’s ChatGPT and xAI’s Grok suffered service interruptions in the latest series of outages. SpaceX confirmed that Grok’s disruption originated at its Memphis, Tennessee, compute center, where Anthropic is also a tenant, fueling speculation about a common infrastructure failure. OpenAI pushed back on that theory, saying its outage was caused by an internal routing error. No evidence disclosed so far establishes one shared cause across all three incidents.
