Bitcoin Reclaims $68,000, but Futures Traders Remain Bearish
Leveraged trading has dominated Bitcoin over the past two months, with the price largely confined to a range of $60,000 to $70,000. Wintermute said perpetual-futures volume was 15 times spot volume, while CryptoQuant estimated 30-day apparent demand at negative 60,000 BTC. Weak spot buying has left the market more sensitive to geopolitics, oil prices and expectations for Federal Reserve interest rates. Quantum computing concerns have also emerged as a long-term risk.
Bitcoin recovered to $68,000 on March 31, 2026, after U.S. President Donald Trump suggested the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran could end. Laevitas data showed the annualized premium on two-month futures at just 2%, while Deribit put options carried a 17% premium. CME FedWatch estimated that the probability of a July rate cut had fallen from 75% to less than 10%. Google said the quantum computing power needed to break ECDLP could be reduced twentyfold, though the feat remains beyond the reach of existing hardware.

The history behind this eventBitcoin Falls Below $67,000 as Risk Aversion Grips Global Markets
Bitcoin is highly sensitive to interest rates and risk appetite. Conflict in the Middle East and the Strait of Hormuz crisis have driven up oil prices and inflation concerns, while rising U.S. Treasury yields have pushed capital toward safe-haven assets such as the dollar. The latest decline has also affected liquidity across the broader cryptocurrency market.
As of July 19, Bitcoin had fallen about 3% over 24 hours, dropping below $67,000 and touching a two-week low. The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield approached 4.5%, near a one-year high, while about $300 million in long positions were liquidated. Core Scientific separately sold $175 million worth of Bitcoin and plans to redirect the proceeds into AI data centers and high-performance computing operations.
