Reflection AI and Shinsegae Plan Korea’s Largest AI Data Center

The U.S. Commerce Department launched its AI Export Program in July 2025 to export integrated packages of chips, models and services to allies and compete with China’s open-source AI. Reflection AI’s partnership with South Korea’s Shinsegae Group will allow Korea to retain domestic control over data and models. It will also give Shinsegae the computing foundation to expand into AI cloud infrastructure and transform its retail operations.

The companies signed a memorandum of understanding for a strategic partnership in San Francisco on March 16, 2026, with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick attending. They plan to build a 250-megawatt facility that would be Korea’s largest AI data center. South Korean media estimated the investment at about 10 trillion won, or roughly $7 billion. Reflection AI will supply tens of thousands of Nvidia chips, models and engineering expertise, while Shinsegae will handle financing, land and permits. The joint venture is expected to be established in the second half of 2026.
