Adobe Adds AI Assisted Editor and Markup Tools to Photoshop

Adobe has steadily embedded generative artificial intelligence into Photoshop through tools such as Generative Fill, Generative Expand and prompt-based editing. The strategy is aimed at making sophisticated image manipulation more accessible while preserving the layered, non-destructive workflows used by creative professionals. The latest overhaul brings previously scattered AI functions into a more streamlined workspace, giving users the option to move between natural-language commands and precision controls.

Adobe said on Aug. 27, 2026, that Photoshop’s beta version is adding an optional AI Assisted Editor with Prompt to Edit, Remove Background, Generative Expand, Generative Fill and AI Markup in one interface. Markup lets users identify areas for recoloring, draw arrows to specify placement or sketch rough shapes for new elements. An upgraded Instruct Edit with Masks, powered by Firefly Image 5, can interpret the full image context and modify a requested area while protecting unmasked content.
