OpenAI Hires InstantDB Team to Bolster AI Coding Infrastructure
InstantDB is an open-source real-time database startup backed by Y Combinator, designed to help developers and coding agents add databases, synchronization and backend services to applications. The team’s move to OpenAI highlights a broader shift in AI coding competition: leading products are expanding beyond code generation toward systems capable of assembling and deploying complete, full-stack applications with less manual infrastructure work.
InstantDB said its entire team will join OpenAI, bringing expertise in real-time data and backend integrations to the company’s AI coding efforts. InstantDB’s hosted cloud service will be gradually wound down, while detailed plans for the open-source project have not yet been disclosed. Neither company announced financial terms, a precise joining date or a final shutdown date for the cloud service.
