KeyBank Launches Virtual Card Program With Qolo

2 reports · First detected 2026-04-14 · Last active 2026-04-29

KeyBank is expanding its commercial-payments offering as fintech platforms including Ramp, Airwallex and Brex compete for corporate clients with faster card issuance, automated expense controls and integrated reconciliation. Virtual cards generate dedicated credentials for individual purchases or vendors, helping companies limit fraud and improve oversight. The product gives the Cleveland-based bank another tool to defend its treasury-management relationships.

KeyBank has partnered with payments-infrastructure fintech Qolo to introduce Key Virtual Card, a commercial program designed for purchasing and supplier payments. The companies did not disclose an investment amount, expected transaction volume or a specific launch date. The initiative adds programmable virtual-card capabilities to KeyBank’s corporate services as the lender seeks to retain business customers increasingly targeted by digital expense-management providers.

Commercial Card Boom Intensifies Competition Between Banks and Fintech Firms2026-05-30 · 1 reports · similarity 0.82

Commercial cards cover corporate procurement, travel and routine operating expenses, and are evolving from simple payment tools into platforms that integrate credit, expense management and real-time analytics. The market was worth about $150 billion in 2025 and is projected to nearly double by 2033. Fintech firms such as Brex are targeting small and medium-sized businesses with digital-first services, directly threatening traditional banks’ fee income and customer relationships.

Capital One announced on Jan. 22, 2026, that it would acquire Brex for $5.15 billion in cash and stock, and completed the deal on April 7. A May 29 report said banks must now reassess the competitive landscape. Industry experts recommend that banks target high-spending small and medium-sized businesses, tailor marketing to their industries and spending needs, and modernize expense-management services to limit market-share losses.
