MicroAGI Offers Free NYC Cleanings to Gather Robot Training Data

Humanoid robots need far more than internet-scale text and image corpora to master household work. They require first-person demonstrations showing how people handle clutter, irregular objects and the physical variability of real homes. Germany-based MicroAGI is addressing that shortage through Shift, a consumer platform that collects recordings of everyday work and chores, anonymizes the footage and supplies training data to artificial-intelligence laboratories developing embodied AI and household robots.

Shift opened free home-cleaning bookings in New York City on May 28, 2026, sending vetted cleaners with head-mounted cameras to record appointments lasting about two hours. The launch generated thousands of booking requests, according to the company. MicroAGI says its platform already pays tens of thousands of contributors across 15 countries to capture daily tasks, with rates of as much as $20 an hour. Shift says faces and personally identifiable information are blurred before footage is used.
