Taiwan’s High-Speed Quantum Computing Strategy Enters Phase Two as First Superconducting Quantum Computer Lab Debuts
Since Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council launched the National Strategy for High-Speed Quantum Computing, the initiative has focused on superconducting qubits, chip design, cryogenic control and software applications, supported by industry-academia-research partnerships and international collaboration. Quantum computing could tackle simulation and optimization problems beyond the capacity of conventional computers. It has therefore been included in Taiwan’s “Ten Major AI Infrastructure Projects” and is considered critical to the next wave of competitiveness for its semiconductor and AI industries.
The council recently announced that the strategy had entered its second phase, with plans to develop control technology for more than 100 qubits over the next five years while advancing quantum software and real-world applications. Taiwan’s first superconducting quantum computer laboratory and validation platform, located in Hsinchu Science Park, was also formally unveiled, showcasing domestically developed chips and cryogenic systems. Publicly available information does not specify the laboratory’s exact opening date or the second phase’s total budget.
