Binance Bitcoin Futures Volume Hits Five Times Spot, Raising Volatility Risk
Binance is one of the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchanges, with both spot and futures markets for bitcoin. When futures volume far exceeds spot trading, prices become more susceptible to leveraged positions, forced liquidations and short-term speculation. The futures-to-spot ratio is therefore an important indicator of market volatility risk.
The latest CryptoQuant data showed that the ratio of Binance bitcoin futures volume to spot volume had risen to 5.1, its highest since mid-2023. That equates to about $5.10 in futures trading for every $1 in spot trading. As leveraged capital increasingly drives market pricing, price swings could become sharper and more frequent.
