Amazon and Walmart Use GLP-1 Weight-Loss Drugs to Build Continuous-Care Commerce Ecosystems
GLP-1 drugs typically require long-term use, while patients also need support with diet, exercise, side-effect management and insurance claims. Amazon and Walmart are therefore treating prescription fulfillment as an entry point for linking telehealth, nutrition, delivery and payments. Their goal is to drive repeat engagement and subscription revenue as retail pharmacies move from one-off transactions toward platform-based care.
PYMNTS reported on April 16, 2026, that Amazon Pharmacy would offer Eli Lilly’s oral GLP-1 drug Foundayo, initially with same-day delivery in nearly 3,000 cities and towns before expanding to 4,500 locations by year-end. Walmart is combining Better Care Services with its network of nearly 4,600 pharmacies, offering delivery in as little as one hour in many areas. Neither company disclosed the amount of additional investment.
