Sharp Partners With Hon Hai to Sell AI Servers in New-Business Push

Sharp has sought new growth drivers and reduced its reliance on LCD panels and home appliances since becoming part of Hon Hai Precision Industry in 2016. With generative AI fueling demand for data-center computing power, Sharp plans to combine its brand, customer base and maintenance capabilities in Japan with Hon Hai’s procurement and manufacturing strengths, reflected in its roughly 40% share of the global AI server market, to enter the enterprise infrastructure market.

Sharp President Tetsuji Kawamura said on July 3, 2026, that the company would sell Hon Hai-made AI servers under the Sharp brand in Japan, targeting a launch during fiscal 2026. Sharp said annual revenue from new businesses could reach 300 billion yen in fiscal 2030, with AI servers accounting for more than 80%. The companies signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation on June 24. Sharp will also invest in a SoftBank-led project to develop homegrown AI in Japan, though the investment amount has not been disclosed.
