AWS Invests $1 Billion in FDE Team to Help Companies Deploy AI Systems
As generative AI moves into the enterprise, the main challenge has shifted from choosing models to system integration, data governance, operations and maintenance. Amazon Web Services is investing $1 billion to establish a Forward Deployed Engineering organization focused on customized agentic AI deployments. By embedding engineers with customers, AWS aims to shorten the path from proof of concept to formal deployment.
AWS announced the initiative in July 2026 and will cover the related personnel and service costs, deploying engineers to customer sites in teams. In addition to helping build agentic AI systems capable of executing multistep tasks, FDE teams will transfer technical expertise and operational practices to customers so they can independently maintain and expand the systems and develop new applications.
