Google’s Antigravity Pricing Overhaul Sparks Backlash Over Tighter Pro Plan Quotas
Google launched a preview of Antigravity, an AI development IDE, in November 2025. It uses Gemini agents to perform coding tasks across an editor, terminal and browser. In March 2026, Google folded Antigravity’s standalone quotas into Pro and Ultra subscription credits, requiring users to pay another $25 for 2,500 credits once their allocation ran out. Pricing transparency and development costs have become key factors in whether users switch to Anthropic or OpenAI.
Antigravity team member Varun Mohan acknowledged the decision was a mistake on May 21, 2026, and announced that Gemini rate limits for paid tiers would be permanently tripled, with users’ allowances reset for that week. Pro users had said their weekly input quota fell from 150 million tokens in January to 9 million tokens in March, while the wait for a reset stretched from five hours to five days. Some consequently switched to Claude, Codex or Copilot subscriptions.
