Indonesia Requires Professional Certification for Crypto Influencers
Oversight of cryptoasset trading in Indonesia has been transferred from the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency to the Financial Services Authority, or OJK. Investment recommendations on social media are also subject to regulation because they can influence retail investors’ decisions. The new framework focuses on financial influencers’ professional competence, transparency and consumer protection, without setting an investment-amount threshold.
Under Regulation No. 6 of 2026, the OJK requires people who recommend cryptocurrencies and other digital financial assets to obtain relevant competency certification, except those already governed by another licensing regime. The regulation was issued and took effect on June 4, 2026. Influencers may recommend only assets listed on compliant exchanges, while their commercial partners must be licensed and publish marketing content through official channels.
