Taiwan Mobile, Jieyuan Energy Use 5G AI-RAN to Boost Geothermal Plant Efficiency

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-18 · Last active 2026-08-18

Geothermal plants require continuous monitoring of wells, equipment and site conditions, often in hot and humid environments that make manual inspections costly and labor-intensive. Taiwan Mobile and Jieyuan Energy deployed a private 5G AI-RAN network at the Jinshan geothermal power plant, integrating connectivity, edge computing and artificial intelligence. The project is designed as a model for smarter renewable-energy management and demonstrates how telecom infrastructure can support operations beyond conventional data transmission.

The companies introduced six AI applications, including autonomous inspections by a robot dog, a generative-AI maintenance knowledge base and energy-optimization tools. The latest trial results showed inspection efficiency improved by more than 20%, while power-generation efficiency during summer increased 5%. Real-time transmission and analysis of operating data also helped staff identify anomalies and make maintenance decisions faster. The companies did not disclose the project’s investment or a broader commercial rollout timetable.
