OpenAI Releases GPT-5.6 Prompt Optimization Guide

OpenAI formally released its “GPT-5.6 Prompt Optimization Guide” on July 15, 2026, saying streamlined system prompts can both improve model performance and reduce token usage by up to 66%. The guide advises developers to define desired outcomes, constraints and stopping criteria instead of prescribing specific steps, allowing the model to choose a more efficient execution path.
