Startup Revives Twitter Brand With Gemini-Powered Fact-Checking

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-27 · Last active 2026-08-27

Operation Bluebird is seeking to revive the Twitter name through twitter.now, arguing that X Corp abandoned the trademark after Elon Musk rebranded the social network as X. The dispute could test how far a company can retain control of a globally recognized brand after publicly retiring it, while determining whether a newcomer may lawfully build a competing platform around that legacy identity.

The U.S. startup has launched twitter.now and embedded Vera, a real-time fact-checking engine built with Google’s Gemini AI, to automatically assess posts and curb the spread of harmful or false content. X Corp has responded in court by seeking a preliminary injunction to stop use of the Twitter brand. The case is now in judicial proceedings, with the court yet to rule on the requested interim restrictions.
