Apple Foundation Models are the backbone of Apple Intelligence, supporting Siri, text generation and actions across apps. At WWDC 2026, Apple unveiled the third-generation AFM 3 family, comprising five models spanning on-device and cloud deployment, as it seeks to bolster its generative AI capabilities while maintaining its privacy-focused approach through Private Cloud Compute.

The newly unveiled AFM 3 uses a next-generation architecture. Its most powerful model, AFM 3 Cloud Pro, combines model-development and computing resources from Google and Nvidia and runs through Private Cloud Compute on Google Cloud infrastructure. Apple did not disclose the value of the partnerships but said data would be processed in a protected environment, balancing complex reasoning with user privacy.
