Thailand SEC Proposes Rules for Spot Bitcoin, Ether ETFs
Thailand is seeking to bring digital-asset exposure further into its regulated capital markets. Spot exchange-traded funds would allow investors to track Bitcoin and Ether prices through conventional brokerage accounts without holding the tokens directly. The framework is also part of Thailand’s broader effort to attract institutional capital and establish itself as a regional hub for regulated digital assets.
Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has opened a consultation on draft rules for spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs, alongside eligibility standards for foreign digital-asset custodians. The initial framework would permit asset managers to issue passive funds tracking BTC and ETH for trading on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The proposal has not specified a launch date or fundraising target for the first products.
