South Korea’s Toss, Optimism to Test Won Stablecoin in Proof of Concept

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-08 · Last active 2026-07-08

South Korean mobile payments app Toss, operated by Viva Republica, offers payment and fintech services. Its partnership with blockchain company Optimism will focus on privacy and compliance safeguards for a won-denominated stablecoin on a public blockchain, a key test of whether digital payments can meet regulatory requirements while preserving transaction confidentiality.

Viva Republica and Optimism will conduct a three-month proof of concept, or PoC, for the won stablecoin, according to the latest report. The trial will test privacy protections and compliance mechanisms for public-blockchain transactions. The companies have not disclosed a launch date, the amount to be tested or a timetable for formal issuance. The results will inform the development of compliant payment infrastructure.
