BNY Puts AI at Its Core in Shift to Platform Banking
BNY, long focused on asset custody, clearing and payment services, is seeking to use AI to integrate fragmented financial operations and move toward a unified “platform bank” model. The strategy marks a shift from providing individual back-office services to becoming an integrated partner embedded in clients’ workflows across data, operations and decision-making.
In its first-quarter 2026 earnings report, BNY said AI had become central to its operations and would help consolidate financial services on a unified, AI-powered platform. Chief Executive Robin Vince said the company would evolve from a traditional custody and payments provider into a platform-based operating partner. BNY has not disclosed the investment planned for the AI strategy or a complete rollout timetable.
