Arthur Hayes Reveals Portfolio Focused on BTC, ETH, ZEC and HYPE
Arthur Hayes is a co-founder of crypto derivatives exchange BitMEX and chief investment officer of Maelstrom. He uses BTC and ETH to gain exposure to non-sovereign money and on-chain finance, while ZEC reflects a bet on demand for privacy and HYPE a wager on Hyperliquid’s round-the-clock decentralized perpetuals market. The broader allocation is designed to hedge against currency debasement, energy inflation and geopolitical risks.
Hayes disclosed his personal portfolio on X on February 23, 2026. His only listed crypto assets were BTC, ETH, ZEC and HYPE, alongside physical gold and shares in mining, oil, defense and Latin American energy companies. BTC was trading at about $66,000 at the time, and he did not disclose the size of his positions. In an interview published on April 13, Hayes said more than 90% of his net worth was in BTC. He had also sold BTC to increase his ZEC and HYPE holdings, while parking new fiat inflows in U.S. Treasuries as he waited for large-scale Fed liquidity injections before adding to his positions.

The history behind this eventArthur Hayes Adds to HYPE Bet, Bullish on Hyperliquid’s DeFi Ecosystem
Hyperliquid is a decentralized exchange that began with perpetual contracts, while HYPE offers exposure to growth in the platform’s trading activity and fees. BitMEX co-founder and Maelstrom chief investment officer Arthur Hayes is bullish on HIP-3, which allows third parties to deploy markets, and HIP-4, which introduces event contracts. He believes Hyperliquid could expand into a general-purpose financial contracts platform and challenge Polymarket and Kalshi.
Lookonchain said Hayes bought 26,022 HYPE on April 11, 2026, at an average price of $41.31, for about $1.1 million. That lifted his holdings to 247,334 tokens worth $10.44 million, with an unrealized gain of more than $2.2 million. However, he sold his entire position from June 4 to June 6. When an address linked to him withdrew another 33,979 HYPE worth about $2.09 million on June 8, Hayes denied that he had made the purchase.
