SpaceX Plans $20 Billion Bond Sale, Discloses Major AI Contracts With Anthropic and Others
SpaceX operates Starlink and Starship, businesses that require substantial capital spending. The bond sale is intended to refinance debt and fund AI initiatives. Although the company remains loss-making on a net basis, it has secured a cloud contract with Google worth up to $3 billion and a business contract with AI startup Anthropic worth up to $4.5 billion, providing important support for its debt-servicing capacity.
As of July 19, 2026, SpaceX had expanded its planned corporate bond offering from at least $20 billion to $25 billion across five tranches. Orders reached $89 billion, covering the deal more than 3.5 times. S&P Global, Moody’s and Fitch all assigned investment-grade ratings. Over the same period, SPCX fell for three consecutive days, with related reports estimating that about $600 billion in market value was erased.
