Topco and Global Unichip Team Up on Taiwan’s First Low-Carbon AI Computing Center
Power consumption at AI computing centers is rising rapidly, while conventional power grids take five to seven years to plan and build, making the pace of electricity supply a challenge for Taiwan’s AI supply chain. Topco Scientific has partnered with IC design services provider Global Unichip to deploy Bloom Energy solid oxide fuel cells, using on-site generation to reduce grid reliance and carbon emissions while strengthening the resilience of computing infrastructure.
On May 25, 2026, Topco announced that subsidiary Topco Power would install a 2.6-MW system at Global Unichip’s Turing Center in Zhunan, Miaoli, with Chien Yueh Technology serving as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor. The project will take just three to six months to complete and is expected to cut carbon emissions by nearly 30% compared with grid power, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 3,072 metric tons annually and roughly 61,400 metric tons over 20 years. The investment amount was not disclosed.
