Oura Buys Doublepoint to Add AI Gesture Controls

1 reports · First detected 2026-03-06 · Last active 2026-03-06

Oura Health Oy has built a leading position in smart rings with a device centered on passive monitoring of sleep, activity and recovery, while most controls remain in a smartphone app. Buying Helsinki-based Doublepoint Technologies signals a broader ambition: turning the ring into an interface for ambient computing. Doublepoint’s combination of artificial intelligence, biometric signals and subtle hand movements could let users operate devices without a screen, extending Oura beyond health tracking into voice- and gesture-driven interaction.

Oura announced the acquisition on March 5, 2026, adding Doublepoint, a privately held startup founded in 2020, to its product-development roadmap. Financial terms were not disclosed. Doublepoint’s team will join Oura, and Chief Executive Officer Tom Hale said gestures could eventually play a central role in future Oura rings alongside voice control. The deal comes as Oura says it has sold 5.5 million rings, giving it a sizable installed base for new AI-powered interaction features, though no launch timetable was provided.
