Coinbase Launches Agentic.Market for Autonomous Stablecoin Transactions by AI Agents
Coinbase launched the open x402 payment standard on May 6, 2025, drawing on the HTTP “402 Payment Required” status code to let developers and AI agents pay directly with stablecoins for APIs, software and infrastructure. The system eliminates the need for accounts, API keys and manual checkout, providing programmable, internet-native payments and service discovery for agentic commerce.
Coinbase launched Agentic.Market on April 20, 2026, aggregating thousands of x402 services across seven categories: inference, data, media, search, social, infrastructure and transactions. It also provides real-time pricing, transaction volume and MCP access. Coinbase said x402 has processed more than 165 million transactions worth over $50 million, involving more than 480,000 AI agents.

The history behind this eventCoinbase Launches AI Agent Accounts for Automated Crypto Trading and Payments
Coinbase has continued to build out “agentic commerce” since launching AgentKit in 2024 and establishing the x402 payment protocol in 2025, enabling AI to move beyond investment advice and execute trades and payments on users' behalf. Assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude can therefore connect to real assets, bringing authorization controls, cybersecurity and trading risks into sharper focus.
Coinbase launched Coinbase for Agents on June 11, 2026, allowing accounts to connect through MCP or CLI. It already supports cryptocurrency spot and derivatives trading. Agents can analyze prices over the past 30 days and schedule $20 of ETH purchases daily for two consecutive weeks. Users can maintain a separate portfolio, while x402 payments and granular transaction and spending limits will be rolled out progressively.
