Samsung to Unveil First AI Smart Glasses in July, Taking On Meta

Samsung Electronics is extending Galaxy AI beyond smartphones into watches and eyewear, aiming to make generative AI an ambient, hands-free gateway to its services. Its intelligent eyewear combines Samsung hardware with Google's Gemini and Android XR platform, while Gentle Monster and Warby Parker supply consumer-facing designs. The push signals a shift in device competition toward context-aware assistants and connected ecosystems that can keep users inside a single software and hardware network.

At Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22, 2026, Samsung showed two additional frame designs, bringing the number disclosed to four, and said the first collections would launch in select markets in the fall. The glasses use Qualcomm's Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 alongside cameras, sensors, microphones and speakers, enabling voice and gesture access to Gemini for translation, navigation and note capture. Samsung said battery life would reach nine hours per charge, while the charging case could provide as many as seven additional recharges.

Samsung Electronics’ AI smart glasses, developed with Google, mark a deeper push by the partners to bring generative AI into wearable devices. The project also puts Samsung in more direct competition with Meta Platforms in an emerging category built around hands-free cameras and digital assistance, while drawing investor attention to optical-component suppliers including Taiwan’s Largan Precision and GIS-KY.

Samsung has now shown the glasses in physical form for the first time, revealing two new frame designs and battery life of as long as nine hours. The devices are scheduled to go on sale in fall 2026. Their camera-based features closely resemble those offered by Meta, renewing concerns that people could be recorded without clear consent and leaving privacy safeguards and data handling as key issues before launch.
