Forbes 30 Under 30 Fintech Founders Face Fraud-Related Legal Action
Forbes' annual 30 Under 30 list was created to recognize young entrepreneurs. But high-growth fintech business models rely on company-reported revenue, customer and funding data, meaning the prestige conferred by the list can magnify gaps in verification. Forbes acknowledged in 2023 that some wrongdoers had slipped through among more than 10,000 past honorees and revoked several individuals' honors, underscoring that investors and banks cannot treat inclusion on the list as a substitute for due diligence.
American Banker on March 16, 2026, reviewed the cases of seven fintech founders who landed in federal court after making the list. In the latest case, Kalder CEO Gökçe Güven was additionally charged with aggravated identity theft on March 10. Prosecutors allege that she used two sets of books to inflate annual recurring revenue from $60,000 to $1.2 million and fraudulently secure $7 million in seed funding.
