AI Cooldown and War Wipe Nearly $200 Billion From Five Tech Titans’ Fortunes
The Bloomberg Billionaires Index tracks the fortunes of the world’s wealthiest people based on the value of their shareholdings and other assets. Tech founders’ wealth is closely tied to their companies’ stock prices. Since the start of 2026, waning enthusiasm for AI and the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran have driven up oil prices and fueled concerns about inflation and economic growth, weighing on major technology stocks and shrinking billionaires’ paper wealth.
As of the U.S. market close on March 27, 2026, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison had lost $60 billion since the start of the year, while Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg had lost $46 billion. Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Alphabet co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin had lost $31 billion, $32 billion and $29 billion, respectively, bringing the five men’s combined decline to $198 billion. Elon Musk, by contrast, gained $17 billion to reach $637 billion, retaining his position as the world’s richest person.
