Tether Co-Founder Backs STBL’s ‘Stablecoin 2.0’ Model
STBL, backed by Tether co-founder Reeve Collins, aims to address a structural issue in traditional stablecoins, where issuers retain all interest earned on reserve assets. Its dual-token architecture separates payment and yield functions, allowing the stablecoin to remain usable for transactions while holders share in returns from the underlying assets. The protocol is therefore positioned as “stablecoin 2.0.”
STBL recently announced a partnership with private-markets investment firm Hamilton Lane and plans to distribute a larger share of underlying returns to users. Users would receive 80% of the interest, rather than leaving all returns with the issuer. Available information does not disclose the value of the partnership, a formal launch date or details of the yield token. Key issues to watch include asset allocation, the redemption mechanism and actual yields.
