Meta Acquires AI Startup ARI in Humanoid-Robot Push Toward AGI

3 reports · First detected 2026-05-02 · Last active 2026-05-04

Meta views humanoid robots as an important path toward artificial general intelligence, or AGI, because they can perceive their surroundings, perform tasks and learn autonomously in the physical world. Assured Robot Intelligence, or ARI, specializes in foundation models and control technology for humanoid robots. The acquisition could strengthen Meta's physical AI capabilities as it competes with rivals to develop the next generation of intelligent systems.

Meta has confirmed its acquisition of ARI, whose team will join Meta Superintelligence Labs and combine expertise in robotic control, autonomous learning and interaction with the physical world. As of July 19, 2026, Meta had not disclosed the purchase price, signing date, closing date or size of ARI's team. It had also not provided a timeline for the integration.
