TSMC’s new plant in Kumamoto, Japan, has fueled business travel and tourism between Taiwan and Japan, drawing attention to the local integration of transportation, energy and payment services. Taiwanese fintech provider Autopass is entering the Kumamoto market by extending its payment technology into smart mobility, establishing a new base for exporting Taiwan’s technology services.

Autopass said its Kumamoto service is scheduled to formally launch in the third quarter of 2026. Travelers will be able to use a single ID to rent electric scooters, make real-time payments and redeem points through linked transportation, energy and digital payment systems. The company has not disclosed the investment amount or a full list of partners, while the scale of operations and participating locations have yet to be announced.
