Grayscale Says Zcash Is Undervalued as AI Surveillance Drives Privacy-Coin Demand

2 reports · First detected 2026-03-30 · Last active 2026-03-31

Grayscale said the growing use of AI surveillance and data analytics is making on-chain transactions easier to track, turning financial privacy into a scarce asset. Zcash uses zero-knowledge proofs to validate transactions while keeping information private, giving it potential as “digital cash,” though regulatory and adoption hurdles remain.

Grayscale’s latest report said the market had yet to fully price in demand for financial privacy and that ZEC could benefit from a third wave of privacy adoption. However, related coverage did not disclose the report’s publication date, a ZEC price target or the projected amount of capital involved. Grayscale also warned that regulatory restrictions, the risk of exchange delistings and the effectiveness of the technology’s implementation would remain key variables affecting future performance.

The history behind this event
Arthur Hayes Backs Zcash Privacy Narrative as Grayscale Files for Zcash ETF2026-05-16 · 2 reports · similarity 0.83

Bitcoin’s public ledger ensures verifiability, but its transaction records can be traced using AI and on-chain analytics tools. Zcash, launched in 2016, uses zero-knowledge proofs to conceal counterparties and transaction amounts. Financial privacy has therefore become central to its positioning as an alternative to Bitcoin.

On May 12, 2026, Maelstrom Chief Investment Officer Arthur Hayes said he had sold some Bitcoin and bought ZEC instead. Grayscale filed an S-3 with the SEC on May 8 seeking to convert its Zcash trust, which held more than $200 million, into a spot ETF listed on NYSE Arca under the ticker ZCSH. ZEC was trading at about $597 at the time, having risen more than 1,400% over the previous year.
