OpenAI Confirms Humanoid Robot Push

OpenAI, best known for generative AI models and software services, is expanding into machines that can operate in the physical world. Humanoid robots could combine perception, reasoning and movement to perform complex tasks, while specialized equipment could support the company’s growing data-center footprint. The move broadens OpenAI’s ambitions from cloud-based AI into vertically integrated hardware and software.

Chief Executive Sam Altman has confirmed for the first time that OpenAI is developing humanoid robots and specialized data-center equipment in-house. The work has been consolidated under the OpenAI Robotics team, which is seeking tighter integration between machine learning and hardware. Near-term efforts will focus on infrastructure construction and operations, while the longer-term goal is personalized robots designed for widespread consumer use.
