Fragmented Finance Systems Blunt Agentic AI’s Promise
Finance data often remains scattered across banks, enterprise resource planning systems, spreadsheets and point applications, forcing teams into manual reconciliation and depriving agentic AI of consistent, auditable context. Bottomline, which processes more than $16 trillion in payments annually, argues that deploying AI over disconnected workflows can amplify weak data quality, fragmented governance and unclear accountability rather than remove those structural constraints.
A Censuswide survey commissioned by Bottomline in May 2026 found 90% of chief financial officers were under pressure to adopt AI, while 78% said fragmented systems impeded the speed, visibility and control expected from finance. Another 79% said their data was not sufficiently clean, connected or controlled to underpin trusted AI. Bottomline responded on June 11 by launching CFO Suite, using its BEA Agentic Platform to connect treasury, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payments without requiring wholesale replacement of existing systems.
